Be very very quiet. We’re hunting the FUD.

5 01 2007

So, today I got an email from a person who actually reads this whole in the Internet, asking my opinion on the Novell/Microsoft collaboration deal. And it goes a little something like this:

openSUSE is created at openSUSE Project,
Novell made the deal, not openSUSE.

There ya go hr20.

Happy New Year.

1 01 2007

2006 sucked.
2007? If Vanilla Coke returns, it’ll be the year.

Have a Yo New Year.

Early? Yes, everything is early.

20 11 2006

I went to the mall place to get a coffee and Linux Format. I walk in, and what? Yes, there’s a Christmas tree. Three of them actually. And Santa, too. This was two weeks ago. NOOOOOOOOO!
Oh, and uh, It’s 11 PM, and it’s 37 degrees. I ran out and wrapped the pipes after dark, because I slept most of the day. For Christmas, I want a Palm Treo 650 and auto wrapping pipes. Oh, and to see the look on my dog Missy’s face if we bring her to get her pictures taken with Santa! Oh, I can see it now! It will be a lot different from that one.

Coming too Zune

18 11 2006

Microsoft. Poor little defenceless Microsoft. How cute they think they can beat uber-cool Apple in their already-defined MP3 player market.
Brown? Brown! Brown. One of the three colors that the Zune comes in is brown. I mean really, it looks ugly and is not desirable. It brakes licenses by putting DRM on non-restricted music and audio, such as pod(net)casts and me talking to myself I put on my MP3 player. (Oh, like you don’t)
But, despite the advertisement, oh I mean “news story” by MSNBC if they are planning to at least sell some, they need to ship them out. At both three Wal-Marts both here and one in Brookhaven, MS, and a Sears I went to, all there is are two display units, and a bunch of empty boxes. And, yes, I did ask if they had any in the back, after checking they said they had only received the display kit.
What’s my point? I don’t really like the iPods, and I don’t own an MP3 player (and, no, I also don’t own any pairs of Crocs). If the Zune was at least $50 to $100 cheaper, I would definitely get one, because it would be affordable, and have the features.
And, no, I wouldn’t get the brown one.

MPEG layer Three Maddness

12 11 2006

Yes, kids, that’s what MP3 stands for. And it’s driving me crazy. I’ve decided to buy a digital music player this winter. It seems normal, right? Well, let’s just say, I’m picky. The iPod is a little too expensive, and the nano just feels too light and doesn’t feel right in my hand. Besides, I want the video. So, I’m following the Zune by Microsoft. It is within my price range, has the features I want, and because a store here had a prerelease version of the Zune there, and it did feel right. Yes, it’s twice the bulk as an iPod, but it does feel right. But, we’ll have to see what happens. Oh, and any music players that you may want to buy for me, they are all graciously accepted.

Let’s All Go to the Polls…

7 11 2006

Since voter turnout is expected to be dismal, ecpecially in Louisiana, here’s some ideas to get them back to the polls:

1 Make a really bad government, which will inspire people to go and change it. I mean really bad, not this stuff people call bad.

2 Give away a Coca-Cola. Free. It’s great and will inspire people, including me, to vote!

3 Give SUSE the contract for the software running in the voting machines. It will inspire open source advocates to vote. American ones, anyway.

4 Put good canadates on the ballot. Like Stephen Colbert. Or me.

Peace out. Go vote. Unless your going to vote for the wrong person. In which case, enjoy Coke.

Roll It… (as soon as the power comes back on)

16 10 2006

So, in the dark through the rain and the wind, I kept the DSL modem and the router on through the UPS and the laptop on battery power. It’s pretty nasty out here, tornado warnings have been on and off today, kind of reminding me of hurricane rain bands a little bit. Earlier today, we went and snapped the shot here of Downtown Baton Rouge. I was in the middle of cropping the photo when the power went out. So, since I think the UPS in nearing it’s end, so long amid the… oh, lightning just struck in the area. Oh boy…

We wish you a happy updates…

12 10 2006

OK, to be honest… (which I am mostly on Word anyway) using SUSE 10.1 is great, but feels much more like a beta, actually, some of it’s betas were more stable. Once installing it, I had to install a driver to make my laptop’s Atheros card (here for instructions) work. After 4 months, I finally got the new Zen installer and updater to work. I spent all day downloading the motherloade of updates. Then, for the past two days, my card stopped working again. After searching and yelling at Acer, I realized that the updates had something to do with it. I had to redo the entire driver. So there it is.

I told somebody so.

I was hit.. in the rear… by a MINI Cooper…

8 10 2006

MINI Cooper S vs. Hummer. Who won? You think you’re so smart.
“Why Kevin, clearly, the winner is the Hummer.”
Actually, the winner was the MINI. Watching the news this morning, MINI was on Florida Blvd., Hummer on Airline, and like a Voltswagon commerical, BEEP… (You can figure out wht happens next)
MINI has front squished, but the people in it were fine, Hummer flipped over twice. Now the people inside it were slightly injured.

Let’s Motor.

And some changes as well…
